About the Role

A unique opportunity to create intricate papercut portraits that explore identity through precision, negative space, and layered depth. This role focuses on transforming paper into evocative artworks where meaning is revealed through deliberate removal rather than traditional additive techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute papercut portraits using diagonal cuts to expose underlying dark layers, creating visual depth and contrast.
  • Develop compositions that leverage negative space to enhance emotional and conceptual impact.
  • Refine cutting techniques to achieve subtle visual vibrations and layered textures in the final artwork.
  • Experiment with materials and tools to push the boundaries of traditional papercutting methods.
  • Collaborate with curators or clients to align artistic vision with project goals, when applicable.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in precision cutting tools (e.g., X-Acto knives, scalpels, or laser cutters).
  • Strong understanding of composition, light, and shadow as they relate to papercutting.
  • Ability to work meticulously with fine details and delicate materials.
  • Experience in conceptualizing and executing layered artwork, particularly in portraiture.
  • Portfolio demonstrating prior work in papercutting, paper art, or related mediums.

Skills

  • Advanced hand-eye coordination and steady hand for intricate cuts.
  • Creative problem-solving to translate complex ideas into visual form.
  • Patience and attention to detail for long-duration projects.
  • Knowledge of paper types, weights, and textures to achieve desired effects.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively for self-directed projects.
