Freelancer Forest Analyst [Part-time Remote]

About the role

We’re looking for a USA-based mid-career arborist to work closely with our Lead Arborist on analyzing imagery to identify tree species and health. This is a contract role requiring 10-20 hours per week with an indefinite contractor agreement. Seasonal work means hours will fluctuate, with busy and slower periods.

Responsibilities

  • Identify declining trees on satellite images
  • Identify tree species on satellite images
  • Quality control the work of our team (e.g., correct tree species, hazard trees, tree height, vegetation encroachment, and overhang)

Requirements

  • Experience as a forester or arborist, ideally ISA Certified Arborist
  • Proficiency with GIS tools like QGIS and ArcGIS
  • Experience interpreting tree characteristics from satellite images
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Team player who seeks out feedback

About Our Team

We are a fast-growing team of about 100 people from all over the world, representing fifteen nationalities and speaking fourteen languages: English, Dutch, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Luxembourgish, Lithuanian, Bulgarian, Finnish, Estonian, and Afrikaans. We work remotely from eleven countries: United States, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Ireland, Estonia, Portugal, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, and Canada.

We gather once a year in-person for our team gathering event and offer the option to occasionally meet up for in-person collaboration.
