Serco supports the US Navy as a prime for their NAVSEA contract, providing various types of support to the Navy Modernization Process. The mission of the Navy Modernization Process (NMP) is to deliver operational and technical modifications to the U.S. Naval Fleet in the most effective and cost-efficient way, defining a standard methodology to plan, budget, engineer, and install shipboard improvements while maintaining Configuration Management (CM) and supportability.

About the role

The Data Analyst will engage Senior Navy leaders, leveraging a comprehensive understanding of shipboard operations to provide valuable insights through data analysis. This fully remote position requires an active and transferable Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial analysis and preparation work for the Availability Duration Scorecard (ADS) Quarterly Review.
  • Assist in calculating projected categorical Navy Surface ship maintenance and modernization availability durations based on the ADS Model, presented quarterly for review.
  • Organize material, perform data analytics, and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Create and/or update databases and spreadsheet-analysis data in electronic formats, including availability planning, duration estimation, shipyard capacity, execution status, and financial/budget status.
  • Gather and analyze technical information from various sources and create Excel/SQL queries to retrieve specific information and parameters from databases.
  • Apply data mining techniques to large data sets to identify patterns, relationships, and behaviors.
  • Analyze, interpret, and draw conclusions from data, identifying problems, solutions, and opportunities using the analysis.
  • Create and deliver graphical representations to display information and convey concepts, including interactive briefings, reports, and dashboards via Microsoft Teams (FlankSpeed) or an NMCI-approved platform.
  • Interpret and analyze data, behaviors, processes, trends, and situations, recommending solutions.
  • Understand and articulate root causes, ensuring analytics are usable, actionable, and valuable for both current and predictive insights.
  • Lead working groups, analytical teams, forums, and Surface Ship readiness exercises, developing and maintaining storyline and graphics.
  • Provide programmatic management and planning support services.

Requirements

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in leveraging data to support decision-making processes and drive operational improvements.
  • Background in data analytics, including experience with statistical analysis, data visualization, and advanced analytic techniques in a DOD setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex data insights to senior Navy leaders.
  • Strong attention to detail, adherence to standards, and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Familiarity with data sources and systems commonly used in the naval environment.
  • Advanced competency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NAVSEA or Navy experience.
  • Experience with Depot-level Overhaul, Maintenance, and Modernization activities.
  • Algorithm writing experience with Python and similar AI/ML languages.
  • Familiarity with Navy maintenance and readiness data systems (e.g., OARS, VSB, CASREP, or equivalent).
  • DoD experience or Naval surface ship experience.
  • Education or certification in data analytics, computer science, or a related field.
  • Ideal candidates have served onboard ships, in a shipyard environment, and/or have past experience working on Navy maintenance metrics and analytics, with an understanding of shipboard maintenance.

Pay

The salary range for this position is provided as a general guideline and represents a good faith estimate across all experience levels. Actual base salary will be determined by factors including scope of the role, relevant experience, job-related knowledge, education, training, key skills, and geographic market considerations. For roles available in multiple states, the range may vary to reflect differences in local labor markets. Eligible positions may also include annual bonuses or long-term incentive opportunities.
