Freelance Bridge Design Project Manager

GigBench has an upcoming project in Bloomfield Hills, MI for a freelance structural/civil engineer to lead bridge and culvert design work in accordance with MDOT and MDOT Local Agency procedures. Scope includes rehabilitation and replacement of bridges and culverts, along with pedestrian bridges, safety paths, and shared-use recreational paths, and may extend to specialty bridge structures as the project develops. Beyond technical design leadership, this role requires strong communication skills, including mentoring junior team members, coordinating directly with clients, directing project meetings, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget. This is a long-term engagement estimated at 12+ months, suited to a senior-level professional comfortable managing both the technical and client-facing sides of a bridge design program. Responsibilities:Lead bridge and culvert design projects following MDOT and MDOT Local Agency proceduresManage rehabilitation and replacement design for bridges, culverts, pedestrian bridges, and shared-use pathsMentor and guide team members throughout the design processCoordinate directly with clients and direct project meetingsOversee project delivery to ensure work stays on schedule and within budgetTake on specialty bridge structure design as project needs evolve What We're Looking For:Structural/civil engineering experience with a focus on bridge and culvert designFamiliarity with MDOT and MDOT Local Agency design procedures and standardsProven project management experience, including client coordination and team leadershipStrong communication and mentoring skillsComfortable managing a long-term (12+ month) engagement from design through delivery
