Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Specialist position supporting a government agency in Washington, DC. This role coordinates responses to FOIA requests, compiles information, and ensures compliance with deadlines and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Examine and evaluate FOIA requests to determine the custodian of records/information.
  • Draft appropriate replies to routine and complex requests for information.
  • Compile statistical data for release.
  • Coordinate with internal and external offices to collect information for release.
  • Compile responsive information from custodians to prepare for submission to the FOIA office.
  • Use an electronic tracking system to manage and complete FOIA assignments and maintain case files.
  • Recognize priorities and independently organize work to meet established deadlines.
  • Establish internal procedures to ensure adequate control of deadlines and progress reports.
  • Maintain and develop knowledge of the supported government program, its divisions, staff, and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience; direct FOIA experience a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook and Excel.
  • Experience working with immigrant or refugee populations and anti-trafficking programs preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance (MBI/T2).

Pay

Likely salary range: $70,658 – $81,256. Salary will be set based on experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements.

Schedule

  • 40 scheduled weekly hours.
  • 100% remote work.
  • Travel required: less than 10%.
