About the role
The Frederick F. Paustian Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center (PIBDC) is a newly established center dedicated to improving the lives of IBD patients through expert, integrated, and innovative patient-centered care, as well as through groundbreaking clinical, translational, and basic research programs. A prospective biobank with a sample-linked clinical database serves the center's research mission.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research that uncovers the mechanisms of environmental, dietary, and gut microbial factors on IBD development through host genetics, immunity, and epithelial responses.
- Establish a productive and nationally recognized program in the prevention and treatment of IBD.
- Secure independent funding and provide excellent training and research opportunities for students and residents.
Requirements
- An MD, PhD, or MD/PhD in immunology, microbiology, genetics, biomedical sciences, or related fields.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience in research administration and project management.
- Primary expertise in epidemiology, microbiome study, human and microbial genetics, epithelial biology, and gut mucosal immunology, with related secondary expertise in nutrition, bioinformatics, and large database biostatistics.
Qualifications
- Record of accomplishment commensurate with senior career/established investigator status, including publications, running a successful independent lab, training future investigators and academics, and securing federal, local, and private research funding.
Skills
- Ability to secure independent funding.
- Excellent teaching and mentoring skills.
- Experience in research administration and project management.
