About the role

The Frame Grinder operates power grinding machines to grind internal and external surfaces of metal frames to specification in preparation for the final painting process. This position emphasizes quality workmanship, accountability, safety, and teamwork to ensure the job is done right the first time.

Responsibilities

• Support continuous improvements in safety, quality, 5S, and existing manufacturing processes.
• Provide feedback to leadership to resolve quality issues or suggest operational improvements related to productivity and procedural changes.
• Ensure the machine is always running and communicate any issues that prevent product flow.
• Know and abide by all company rules and policies regarding safety and conduct, including the use and maintenance of company-provided PPE.
• Embrace cross-training by learning other jobs or tasks within the facility.
• Perform daily housekeeping to maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Adhere to a flexible schedule for overtime and start times based on work volumes.
• Set up and operate power grinding tools while maintaining continuous workflow through documented processes.
• Layout and load materials as required.
• Assist with daily preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for machines, manuals, and procedures.
• Perform first-part inspections and in-process quality checks.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1-2 years of manufacturing experience.
• Experience in a high-volume, fast-paced production environment.
• Metalworking or hollow metal fabrication experience preferred.
• Dexterity with manufacturing equipment, basic power tools, and machinery.

Skills

• Ability to read and understand engineering documents and shop travelers.
• Knowledge of grinding speeds.
• Understanding of finished product characteristics.
• Ability to mix and apply bondo to specifications.

Physical Demands

• Ability to frequently lift, push, pull, and grasp up to 50 pounds.
• Dexterity with both hands.
• Occasionally perform work while in a bent, kneeled, stooped, or squatted position.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.

Work Environment

• Fast-paced custom metal manufacturing environment.
• High noise levels.
• Contact with metals and lubricants.
• Exposure to airborne particles and dust.
• Exposure to moving objects such as machinery, mechanical parts, forklifts, and carts.
• Exposure to hot or cold temperatures in areas of the building that cannot be temperature-controlled, especially during summer months.

Pay

The expected base hourly range is $20 - $22.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
