About the role
You will be the person who owns our story. Not advertising, not lead generation, not a press-release calendar. Your job is to deeply understand what we do, decide which stories are worth telling and why, and make sure they get told at the highest level of quality to the specific audiences that decide our future.
This is a fractional senior role, not a junior part-time job. You will work directly with the CEO, have full access to the company including field and customer environments, and carry a dedicated production budget for commissioning external filmmakers, writers, and production teams several times a year.
Who you are
This posting is mostly about you, because the person matters more than the plan.
- You have 10 to 15+ years of experience, with meaningful in-house time working directly with a CEO or founder.
- Your background is one of the following: long-form journalist or editor at a serious publication, documentary producer with a business mind, or head of communications at a company that made a technical or unglamorous industry impossible to ignore.
- You still do the craft with your own hands. You write at a professional level and can show finished work you personally made, not strategy decks about work other people made.
- You can sit in a deeply technical conversation, follow the substance, and then translate it into one sentence an industry executive would repeat to a colleague.
- You think like a strategist. You understand that positioning, investor perception, and executive relationships are the real scoreboard, and that every story should move a specific audience toward a specific conclusion.
- You know how to find a story, not just place one. Agencies wait for the announcement. You go looking for it.
- You are energized by field work. Some of our best stories live in remote industrial environments, and you want to be there with your boots on.
- You are comfortable operating fractionally, possibly alongside other clients, and you accept in-sector exclusivity as a condition of the engagement.
- You are discreet. You will be trusted with sensitive commercial and strategic information from day one.
Who you are not
- A performance marketer, growth marketer, or demand generation specialist.
- A social media manager or content calendar operator.
- An agency account lead whose portfolio is other people's work.
- A big-company communications executive who has not personally written or produced anything in years.
- A social media influencer.
