Fractional Controller, Sage 100 Expert

Vessel Advisors is an accounting and advisory firm that provides tailored financial solutions to a diverse portfolio of small and mid-sized businesses. We are building a bench of independent Fractional Controllers with deep Sage 100 expertise to support client engagements on a part-time, contract basis. In this role, you will own the accounting function for one or more clients running Sage 100: closing the books, producing reliable financial statements, and strengthening the processes and controls behind them. You will work remotely, manage your own client load, and partner closely with client leadership and our Fractional CFOs. This is a fully remote, independent contractor role open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Sage 100 experience and prior controller experience are both required. Please do not apply without both. This is a contract role, but we are open to hiring the right person full time as well. Responsibilities Lead the month-end and year-end close in Sage 100, including reconciliations, accruals, and journal entriesPrepare accurate, timely financial statements and management reportingReview and improve accounting workflows, internal controls, and Sage 100 setup across general ledger, AP, AR, and other modules in use (such as inventory or job cost)Oversee and mentor client bookkeeping and AP/AR staffSupport budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and variance analysis alongside our Fractional CFOsCoordinate with outside CPAs on audits, reviews, and tax preparationCommunicate financial results clearly to owners and non-financial stakeholders Requirements Controller experience (required): prior experience serving as a controller, with full ownership of the close and financial reportingSage 100 expertise (required): hands-on, recent experience working in Sage 100 (formerly MAS 90/200), including the general ledger and core financial modulesStrong command of US GAAP, accrual accounting, and account reconciliationAdvanced Excel skills; experience with Sage 100 reporting tools is a plusAbility to work independently and manage multiple client engagements at onceClear, professional communication with business owners and executivesBased in the United StatesBachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred; CPA a plus If you are a controller who knows Sage 100 inside and out and wants flexible, project-based work, we would like to hear from you.
