About The Role
Cabrini Green Legal Aid (CGLA) is seeking a dynamic and passionate individual to join our dedicated team. This position will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive legal services and advocating for systemic change.
What You'll Do
- Provide direct legal services to clients affected by the criminal legal system, including but not limited to criminal defense, family law, and housing law.
- Advocate for policy reforms that address the direct and collateral consequences of the criminal legal system.
- Collaborate with social workers to offer wraparound support services to clients.
- Conduct outreach and provide legal information and resources to other legal aid organizations, pro bono attorneys, and the general public.
- Engage in policy advocacy and research to inform our legal services and support the mission of CGLA.
Qualifications
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- At least 3 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in the area of criminal law or civil rights.
- Experience working with low-income individuals and communities negatively impacted by the criminal legal system.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to social justice and a passion for making a difference in the lives of those affected by the criminal legal system.
