FP&A Manager - CSS
About the role
The FP&A Manager - CSS role involves collaborating with innovative 3Mers around the world, transitioning from other private, public, government, or military experience to a 3M career. Key responsibilities include leading financial planning, analysis, and consolidation reporting for corporate functions such as HR, IT, Finance, Legal. You will provide business partnering to senior leadership teams and lead the Operating Plan process.
Responsibilities
- Leading the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and long-range planning processes for corporate functions.
- Developing and maintaining detailed expense models, including headcount, compensation, and operating expenses.
- Providing variance analysis (actual vs. plan/forecast) and clear insights into cost drivers.
- Coeordinating with CSS (corporate staff services) team and Finance COE all forecasting and Operating Plan deliverables.
- Acting as the primary finance partner to leaders across HR and finance functions.
- Challenging spending assumptions and providing recommendations to optimize efficiency and ROI.
- Supporting strategic initiatives such as workforce planning, system investments, and transformation programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance, Accounting, or Economics (completed and verified prior to start).
- Seven (7) years of FP&A or corporate finance experience in a private, public, government, or military environment.
- Monitor operating expenses and ensure adherence to budget targets.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements across functions.
- Establish governance and financial discipline over discretionary spend.
- Lead headcount forecast and analytics (hiring, attrition, productivity).
- Analyze labor cost trends and provide forward-looking insights.
- Deliver monthly and quarterly financial reports for corporate functions primarily HR and finance.
- Track key metrics such as cost per employee, functional cost ratios, and spend efficiency via bowlers.
- Prepare executive-ready presentations for senior leadership.
- Collaborate with Accounting to ensure proper expense recognition and accruals.
- Partner with Procurement on vendor spend and contract optimization.
- Partner with finance COE to standardize and automate reporting across functions.
- Enhance financial processes, reporting cadence, and forecast accuracy.
- Leverage tools such as Excel, Power BI, and ERP systems for automation and insights.
- Automatize reporting and use AI tools to enhance processes and analytics.
- Improve cost allocation methodologies and reporting transparency.

Work Location
This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN. Travel may include up to 5% domestically/internationally. Relocation is not authorized.
