Company Overview
Our client is a privately held, New York-based business information and marketing services company serving professionals across several specialized financial and business sectors. The company generates revenue through paid subscriptions, specialized journalism, proprietary research, live events, executive networking, advertising, and B2B marketing services. With approximately 150-200 employees, the organization offers the visibility and cross-functional access of a smaller company while supporting an established portfolio of recognized industry brands.
Position Overview
The company is seeking a hands-on Senior Financial Analyst to support financial planning and analysis across Editorial, Sales, Technology, Marketing, and other corporate functions. This individual-contributor role is designed for a finance professional with approximately 4-6 years of relevant experience who can independently manage recurring FP&A responsibilities, develop practical financial analysis, and partner effectively with business leaders. Reporting directly to the SVP of Financial Planning and Analysis, the consultant will support budgeting, forecasting, operating expense management, monthly close, management reporting, and decision support. The role will also help improve financial reporting and workflows through the responsible use of generative AI and automation tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Own operating expense budgeting, forecasting, reporting, variance analysis, and month-end close support for assigned business areas.
- Partner with leaders across Editorial, Sales, Technology, Marketing, and corporate functions to manage budgets, evaluate spending, and provide clear financial guidance.
- Support the annual budget and quarterly forecasting processes, including data collection, model updates, review materials, and follow-up analysis.
- Maintain and improve revenue reporting packages while developing a strong understanding of subscription, advertising, event, and other company revenue streams.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting, dashboards, and executive presentations.
- Build and maintain practical financial models and complete ad hoc analyses supporting operating and investment decisions.
- Partner with Accounting during the monthly close to validate results, investigate variances, and improve reporting accuracy.
- Use tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini to streamline routine work, strengthen analysis, and improve reporting efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
- Approximately 4-6 years of hands-on experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or financial planning and analysis.
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, operating expense management, variance analysis, financial reporting, and monthly close support.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling, PivotTables, lookup functions, and data analysis.
- Ability to build and maintain practical financial models, reporting packages, and decision-support tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information clearly to non-finance business partners.
- Experience using generative AI tools to improve productivity, analysis, or finance workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting a B2B media, digital publishing, advertising, information services, events, or subscription-based business.
- Familiarity with subscription, recurring-revenue, advertising, or event-revenue reporting.
- Experience with an FP&A planning platform such as Anaplan, Workday Adaptive Planning, Pigment, or Oracle EPM.
- Experience developing effective AI prompts, automations, plugins, or repeatable workflows for financial analysis and reporting.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The strongest candidate will be a current Senior Financial Analyst or experienced Financial Analyst who remains close to the work. This individual will combine strong FP&A fundamentals with business-partnering judgment, advanced Excel capability, and the confidence to manage recurring deliverables with limited oversight. Direct media or subscription experience is preferred, although adjacent experience within information services, advertising, events, digital businesses, or other recurring-revenue environments may also align well.
