About the role

As a Foundry Lab Technician, you will collect and prepare iron and sand samples for testing, perform required lab testing, record and analyze results, and initiate corrective actions to ensure compliance. You will also calibrate and standardize testing equipment, order laboratory supplies, and collaborate with Melt Deck, metallurgists, and other teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and prepare iron and sand samples for testing as required.
  • Perform all required lab testing on iron samples.
  • Record and analyze iron and sand test results.
  • Initiate corrective action measures to bring out-of-spec findings into compliance.
  • Order laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Calibrate and standardize all testing equipment as necessary.
  • Adhere to all plant safety rules and procedures.
  • Work with Melt Deck personnel, management, and metallurgists to correct melt metal issues.
  • Collaborate with Lost Foam, Molding, and Core Room foremen to address sand system problems.
  • Perform additional lab testing and functions as directed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and some college coursework.
  • Complete understanding of the operation and function of lab measurement and test equipment.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess melt metal and troubleshoot issues.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Quality-conscious approach to work.
