Founding Head of Marketing & Sales ($135,000 - $165,000 + Equity)
MOOV · Brooklyn, NY · 1 mo ago
On-siteBusiness Development$135k–$165k/yrFull-time
About the role
MOOV is a student movement OS—an entirely new category in education technology. We grew 252% last year without a sales team, and we're breaking into some of the country's biggest districts. This role exists to build the commercial engine that turns organic momentum into a repeatable, scalable growth machine.
What you'll own
- Own the conference motion end to end—planning, booth execution, and actively working the exhibit hall to prospect
- Figure out outbound—run real experiments against superintendents, principals, technology directors, and security directors to find what lands
- Build the brand in public—founder-led social, short-form video, LinkedIn, and showing up where decision-makers actually read
- Make the product the content—capture visual stories (heat maps, student check-ins) with district permission and no student faces, and deploy them across site, deck, booth, and feed
- Turn word of mouth into a system—build a referral program, reference network, and case studies with real numbers
- Know the product—readers, kiosks, handhelds, cards, software—and quote districts accurately
- Learn the buyer—K-12 budget cycles, board approvals, POs, bond money, and grants
- Build the team behind you—hire your first rep inside a year with a playbook ready
What you're walking into
- No sales team, no CRM discipline, no attribution
- Marketing is two founders posting when they remember
- Website converts but nobody has tested why
- Cold outreach hasn't worked—unknown if channel or execution
- Product is genuinely loved with strong references
Success milestones
- By week two: Name all customers, why each bought, and which are references; sit in on and run part of a demo
- By month three: Pipeline exists outside of heads—every opportunity has an owner, stage, number, and next date; know cost per meeting and channel attribution; something you made has reached unknown audiences
- By month six: Know cost to acquire a district and sales cycle length; conference season is planned; content ships on cadence; playbook written for first rep
Who you are
- Better than us—you push us, we don't push you
- Care deeply about whether a specific kid in a specific hallway is accounted for
- Have closed deals yourself and can walk through one from first contact to signature, including where it nearly died
- Built an audience from zero for a company or yourself
- Can shoot and cut video on your phone with good taste
- Write like a person, not a company—good enough to send to a superintendent without edits
- Credible in school buildings—can hold a room of skeptical administrators without condescension
- High agency—when a board meeting moves up, you move
- Take accountability—when a deal is lost, you can say precisely why, and it's not "budget"
- Measure everything—you'd rather know your cost per meeting than have an opinion
- Scope before executing—first move is understanding the market
- Use AI as leverage and own the output—if a prompt misses something, that's your miss
- Confident without needing to win—push back with evidence, take a "no" without sulking
- 1-3 years selling or marketing into schools, districts, government, or another long-cycle institutional buyer
- Helpful, not required: sold hardware and software together; built a referral/reference program from nothing; run a brand account that grew; been a first or early commercial hire
