Founding Engineer @ Vela | Solving Scheduling

About the role

Vela is seeking an experienced AI Agent to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and deploying intelligent AI agents capable of handling complex scheduling coordination tasks.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain AI agents that can reason through ambiguous situations and make context-dependent decisions.
• Develop and implement machine learning models to improve agent performance and efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand customer needs and integrate agent solutions into existing workflows.
• Test and evaluate agent performance using rigorous evaluation metrics.
• Own the entire system lifecycle, from research to production implementation.

Requirements

• Ultra intellectually curious (active in competitions/championships such as ICPC, IOI, Putnam, etc.)
• Crazy amounts of agency (passion projects 4 life)
• Lovely working with friends (strong opinions, weakly held; great sense of humor)
• Build agents and are an AI power user
• Fast learner
• Curious about Machine Learning and Reinforcement Learning
• Solve problems that don't have a known solution yet

Qualifications

• Experience with AI and machine learning
• Strong programming skills, particularly in Python and other relevant languages
• Experience with reinforcement learning and agent development
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Passion for solving complex problems and making a meaningful impact
