Forward Deployed Engineer (up to $250k)
About the Role
Speakeasy builds OpenAPI-native tooling that lets companies design, govern, and ship best-in-class APIs — production-ready SDKs, MCP servers for AI agents, Terraform providers, and AI-enabled docs. Their customers include Mistral AI, Vercel, Gusto, Docusign, and Verizon, who use Speakeasy to cut time-to-integration and unblock revenue. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll sit at the front of those engagements: you'll own the hands-on technical deployment of Speakeasy inside key accounts, work autonomously to land successful implementations, and act as the customer's core technical partner throughout.
This isn't a pure delivery role — you'll iterate the product itself. Working directly inside customers' APIs and SDKs, you'll lead in-depth technical implementations, then feed what you learn back into the roadmap and docs so the next deployment goes smoother. You'll manage several customer relationships at once, balance competing priorities, and have real influence over where the product goes next. The team is ~40, split across PST and GMT, async-first, and biased toward high ownership.
What They're Looking For
- You bring significant back-end / API engineering experience — likely 6–8+ years — and you're happy diving deep into the technical detail of customers' APIs and SDKs.
- You've worked as a founding engineer, solutions engineer, or technical founder, and can lead in-depth technical deployments with customers and partners.
- You have strong customer empathy and can pragmatically connect a customer's goals to what Speakeasy can do for them.
- You operate with high ownership and autonomy — you rapidly learn what you don't yet know and naturally find where to have the most leverage.
- You manage multiple customer relationships and competing priorities without dropping the ball.
