Forward Deployed Engineer

Intuit · New York, NY · Yesterday
On-siteEngineering$171k–$231k/yrFull-time

About the role

Intuit Enterprise Suite powers the world's fastest-growing mid-market and enterprise finance teams, enabling them to run their books, close quarters, and deploy AI agents for real accounting operations—not just demos. Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) make this a reality by embedding with customers, shipping production automation, and turning "AI pilot" into "AI in the general ledger." This role blends engineering, applied AI, and enterprise finance, with success measured by one metric: did the customer's business measurably change because you were in the room?

FDEs report into Engineering but operate as a field role spanning both pre- and post-sale functions. You’ll collaborate with Sales and Account Management on high-impact deals and renewals while owning the last mile between Core Engineering’s product and customer-specific implementations.

Responsibilities

  • Build hands-on proofs-of-value for prospects before contracts are signed, using their real data and systems with live integrations and outputs.
  • Partner with Account Executives from the first technical touch: lead discovery with finance and IT teams, drive technical evaluations (architecture, security/compliance, integration feasibility, RFPs), and build ROI cases for CFOs and Controllers. Your proof-of-value often secures the deal.
  • Flag technical or data-readiness risks early to ensure accurate deal scoping by Sales.
  • Architect and deploy customer-specific AI Agent configurations to automate accounting processes, strengthen controls, accelerate book closures, and reduce manual work.
  • Perform deep technical troubleshooting (Python, SQL, integration diagnostics) and serve as the escalation point for integration, data, and automation issues. Maintain SLAs and document/escalate issues to Engineering with full context.
  • Lead transformation engagements with enterprise finance teams as the primary technical contact for CFOs, Controllers, and accounting leaders. Guide workflow redesign and change management to scale adoption, extending proof-of-value discipline into renewals and expansion.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed (up to 70%).
  • Act as the Voice of the Customer by surfacing technical feedback and product gaps to Product and Engineering teams. Develop implementation guides and reusable assets to accelerate future deployments.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, technical consulting, or a comparable hands-on, customer-embedded engineering role (scope and level matched to experience).
  • Deep experience with REST APIs, GraphQL, webhooks, SQL, and enterprise integrations.
  • Strong technical fluency and ability to collaborate as a peer with Product Managers and Engineers—not just a handoff.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple technical deployments simultaneously under delivery pressure.
  • Comfort leading technical troubleshooting calls with customers and internal IT teams.
  • Ability to operate on both sides of the signature: build credible proofs-of-value under sales-cycle time pressure and maintain reliable production systems afterward.
  • Default to automation—leverage AI and modern tooling to move faster, document better, and scale impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguity into executable requirements and communicate insights clearly to both engineers and executives.
  • Strong commercial awareness, stakeholder management, and ability to perform under delivery and revenue pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in high-growth SaaS, applied AI, or fintech/ERP/accounting-adjacent domains.
  • Domain experience in a priority vertical: construction (job costing, WIP, retainage), nonprofit (fund accounting, grant/donor compliance), manufacturing (inventory, cost accounting, production workflows), wealth management (client billing, compliance/regulatory reporting, investment accounting), healthcare (revenue cycle, compliance-heavy financial operations), franchise (zee governance, zor performance), or field services (job/work-order costing, scheduling-linked billing). Depth in one vertical shortens ramp-up time.
  • Non-traditional paths welcome: veterans, former management consultants, competitive programmers, and PhDs have excelled in this role.
  • Prior experience embedded at a customer site for multi-month deployments (e.g., implementation consulting, forward-deployed, or field engineering).
