Forklift Technician- Senior

US Citizenship is required to maintain an Active Top Secret/SCI US Government clearance with polygraph.

About the role

The contractor will be responsible for the proper repair and maintenance of a large fleet of forklifts and related equipment of various brands (predominantly Raymond). The forklift fleet consists of electric, gas-, and diesel-powered units designed for interior and exterior building use. Responsibilities include maintaining a comprehensive maintenance schedule, managing spare parts inventory, and performing all levels of repairs for forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts.

Responsibilities

• Schedule, prioritize, inspect, and repair forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts.
• Determine when a major component/assembly should be repaired, rebuilt, replaced, or discarded within prescribed value ranges.
• Assist with purchasing parts and services.
• Maintain fleet and training vehicles; prepare written estimates for cost and labor time for corrective repairs.
• Interact with customers to inform them of vehicle status and needed repairs.
• Independently perform corrective maintenance and repairs; notify government focal points if a task cannot be safely performed alone.
• Inspect, diagnose, and isolate vehicle and equipment malfunctions; troubleshoot and trace defects to determine necessary repairs.
• Repair forklifts and equipment to ensure safety and dependability; replace worn parts as needed.
• Perform oil changes, check fluids, diagnose tread wear, charge and repair batteries, and troubleshoot problems.
• Inspect and replace hydraulic lines/hoses; ensure braking and electrical systems are optimal.
• Utilize manufacturer-specified techniques and procedures for repairs and maintenance.
• Identify necessary parts, equipment, and supplies for repairs or preventative checks.
• Road test vehicles during and after maintenance/repair work.
• Respond to emails and telephone calls.
• Perform other related duties as directed by a supervisor regarding forklift and equipment maintenance.

Requirements

• Active Top Secret/SCI US Government clearance with polygraph (US Citizenship required).
• Ten years of experience in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide variety of forklifts.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Certified in the safe operation of forklifts by the Sponsor within 30 days of commencing work and every 24 months thereafter.
• Certified maintenance on Raymond brand forklifts; other forklift maintenance certifications are a plus.

Skills

• Extensive knowledge of forklift operating systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
• Proficiency in maintenance and diagnostic practices and tools for forklifts and related equipment.
• Knowledge of computer, electrical, and transistorized systems and their impact on mechanical operations.
• Familiarity with tools, equipment, test procedures, and practices for forklift repair and preventative maintenance.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Experience diagnosing complex mechanical and related malfunctions.
• Ability to read technical manuals, references, specifications, and service bulletins.
• Written communication skills for routine correspondence, maintenance logs, and order forms.
• Expertise in operating forklifts, power tools, wrenches, diagnostic equipment, and jacks.
• Working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Access and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Adaptability to prioritize and schedule multiple work requirements.
• Flexibility in work schedule.
• Representational skills for interacting with outside vendors.
• Working knowledge of diesel, gas, and electric mechanics.
• Experience welding simple parts.

Work Environment

The work is usually performed inside on concrete surfaces with exposure to drafts, noise, and fumes from vehicles. Occasionally, work may be performed outside under adverse weather conditions. The role involves continual exposure to dirt, dust, grease, and potential hazards such as burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts, and strains. Safety practices and equipment (e.g., safety shoes, glasses, respirators) are used to mitigate risks.

Pay

US: $32.00 - $45.00/hourly. This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position governed by the Service Contract Act (SCA). In addition to the base hourly rate, you may be eligible for an additional health and welfare payment for each hour worked to comply with SCA minimums.
