About the role
As a Forklift Operator at Hilmar Cheese Company, you will facilitate the shipping and receiving of all products produced in the cheese plants using the warehouse management system. Your role emphasizes internal and external customer service, organization of products, and operation of equipment while maintaining safety and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Create a positive work environment through good relational skills, communication, and teamwork.
- Take personal initiative to advance knowledge of warehousing and distribution procedures.
- Assist packaging areas with an emphasis on communication and teamwork.
- Follow all safety measures and standard operating procedures.
- Perform operations in a consistent, repeatable fashion.
- Stage all products before shipment and verify shipping paperwork; report inaccuracies to supervisors.
- Make adjustments to quantity inaccuracies using the warehouse management system.
- Inspect all incoming products to prevent contamination of Hilmar Cheese Company products.
- Ensure all incoming products are marked correctly, including product types, case count, and production date.
- Maintain order and cleanliness in the cold box and surrounding areas.
- Complete daily forklift inspections and report unsafe conditions.
- Sort and organize incoming products by plant.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and complete shipments as required by the manifest.
- Operate equipment and report any malfunctions to supervisors.
- Consult the shipping schedule for changes as communicated by the logistics coordinator or supervisor.
- Actively participate in training and development programs, including coaching and buddy training.
- Prioritize food safety and sanitation by following company policies and reporting incidents or opportunities for improvement.
- Prioritize safety above all other duties, reporting any safety issues or observations.
Requirements
- Proficient English skills to understand, read, write, and speak.
- Ability to work 8-hour or 12-hour variable shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to work in a cold environment (estimated temperature of 35 degrees).
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- Forklift certification.
- Warehouse forklift experience.
- Knowledge of warehouse management software.
- RF scanning knowledge.
- Experience in manufacturing or distribution.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms almost the entire workday.
- Climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Talk or hear.
- Work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Perform pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, handling, grasping, and twisting/turning motions.
- Physically capable of working in various job tasks within respective areas.
Pay
Salary Range: USD 24.10 - 28.71 per hour.
