Position Summary
Join our exciting & dedicated team at Vallen as a Forklift Operator. In this position, you will operate powered industrial trucks to load and unload materials and deliveries and assist in receiving, handling, stocking, etc., goods in a warehouse or distribution center. Additionally, you will be responsible for following established procedures and guidelines by operating a forklift with the utmost care to ensure efficiency and safety.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely and properly operates warehouse equipment to complete tasks (e.g., forklifts, cherry-picking lifts, pallet jacks, or other warehouse machinery).
- Before and after each shift, completes the equipment logs and daily forklift inspection form.
- Ensures the maintenance of company forklifts by keeping all moving parts well lubricated; ensure forklift gauges function properly and equipment is charged or fueled, and fluid levels are adequate for operation.
- Unloads materials and merchandise from incoming vehicles, receives and puts away incoming goods and merchandise; unpacks bales, crates, and other containers; checks for damage and for discrepancies between goods and invoices; may install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit from truck to warehouse and/or shelving.
- Loads trucks for customer delivery; may install strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit; checks for damage and for discrepancies between goods and shipping work order.
- Completes shipments by processing and loading orders; reads production schedule, customer order, work order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
- Prepares, picks, packs, and dispatches outgoing goods and merchandise according to written or verbal requests or work orders; uses pick sheets in various formats (paper or electronic) to locate items within the warehouse; removes products from warehouse shelves and places products on pallets, with a pallet jack or forklift, following stacking policies to prevent product damage; verifies product and quantity accuracy.
- Weights or counts items for distribution within warehouse to ensure conformance to company standards.
- Assists in inventory level maintenance and inventory counts.
- Responsible for following warehouse safety regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent coupled with 3+ months relevant experience and/or training.
- Valid certification to operate forklifts or the ability to obtain such certification within the specified time period as defined by management.
- Loading, unloading, picking, packing or moving goods in a warehouse environment; forklift / cherry picker experience preferred.
- Relevant experience and/or aptitude should include: Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, work orders, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Basic computer knowledge and proficiency and/or a demonstrated technical aptitude to learn; preferred technical skills to include but not limited to MS-Office products, Vista, Control, SX.e, Prophet 21.
- Demonstration of basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units to measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals); ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent preferred.
- Demonstration of attention to detail.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

- Must have hand, arm, foot, and leg dexterity.
- Must be able to handle and work physical inventory; required to lift up to 75 lbs. or greater with assistance following standard operating and safety procedures.
- May be required to handle hazardous materials and wear various forms of protective equipment (shoes, gloves, protective eyewear, etc.).
- May be required to pass forklift and/or other warehouse equipment certifications (written and/or driving).
- Assigned work shifts may vary and/or rotate.
- Overtime may be required; extended day, evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand and may include little to no advanced notice.
