Forklift Operator

About the role

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate forklifts (sit-down and stand-up reach) according to training and company safety policies.
• Read and understand Bills of Lading and Pick Sheets.
• Accurately and efficiently pick full pallets and case quantities using daily pick sheets, ensuring the first in, first out method is followed.
• Shrinkwrap pallets when necessary, stage product for loading, and verify pallet accuracy against orders.
• Safely load and unload product and supplies to/from trucks using appropriate forklifts.
• Obtain samples of incoming bulk product according to Quality Control Guidelines.
• Place product in appropriate storage areas, shrinkwrap finished good pallets, and transport/store them in designated locations.
• Maintain clean and organized aisles and rack storage; consolidate partial pallets as needed.
• Organize products, including partial pallets, according to facility standards.
• Inventory product as needed, label, sort, wrap, and tie product.
• Hand load product onto containers.
• Comply with company safety policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures.
• Accurately complete required paperwork in accordance with company standards.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by lead person and/or manager.

Working environment and physical demands

• Frequently (more than 75% of the time) required to: stand and/or walk, use ladders and climb stairs, bend and stoop, reach, push/pull, kneel, and crouch.
• Lift, carry, and/or move items up to 100 pounds without assistance.
• Use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls, and verbally communicate.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• Frequently exposed to a non-climate-controlled environment, dust, loud noise, and machinery with moving parts.
• Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, safety glasses, hair nets, and food safety-related items is required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1+ years of recent experience operating Sit Down and Stand-Up reach forklifts in a warehouse environment.
• Ability to meet daily production requirements.
• Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and comprehend required paperwork.
• Writing skills sufficient to complete required paperwork.
• Basic math skills.
• Positive attitude and ability to work well with all levels of personnel.
• Effective communication of questions, problems, and reports to co-workers, supervisors, and management.
• Flexibility to accommodate unscheduled changes in duties and work overtime as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience operating Sit Down and Stand-Up reach forklifts for picking and pulling orders, loading and unloading trucks in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
