Forklift Operator

Role Overview

The Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient movement, loading, unloading, staging, and documentation of freight within various warehouse or transportation environments. They assist with dock operations, support workflow, and ensure freight integrity. As experienced team members, they mentor new Material Handlers and resolve operational issues.

Responsibilities

• Move, stage, sort, and position freight following safety and operational procedures.
• Assist with loading/unloading cargo, labeling, scanning, and tracking freight.
• Identify damaged freight, report issues, and uphold safety standards.
• Maintain an organized, safe dock environment and support workflow efficiency.
• Train and mentor less experienced staff, act as subject-matter experts, and support operational goals.
• Handle complex freight safely and accurately, including high-value or oversized items.
• Participate in problem-solving, dock coordination, and task prioritization.

Qualifications & Skills

• High school diploma or GED preferred; valid forklift certification required.
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience.
• Effective communication skills in English.
• Ability to recognize labels, barcodes, and perform basic arithmetic.
• Willingness to learn computer systems, handheld scanners, and freight-tracking devices.
• Proficiency in operating material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyors (training provided).
• Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs, stand, walk, and work safely in a noisy, outdoor, or temperature-variable environment.

Additional Requirements

Reliable attendance, safety awareness, and adaptability to work various shifts, including nights and weekends. All duties aim to support dock productivity, safety, and operational excellence.
