About the role

The Tow Motor/Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient loading of all trucks coming into the assigned department, the storage of material produced from the mill, and the loading and unloading of highway rail cars. The role includes upkeep of the assigned forklift, final quality checks on outgoing material, and assisting management with various tasks such as cutting material, production floor support, and general department upkeep.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all work and safety instructions
  • Operate machinery safely and efficiently
  • Stack all production according to the storage map
  • Complete work orders with accurate documentation
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of shipments
  • Keep the work area organized and clean
  • Examine product to ensure it meets quality standards
  • Load and unload material onto highway rail cars
  • Load material onto Scrap shear, SALV Saw, and SILT Table
  • Perform basic troubleshooting when necessary
  • Assist in other departments throughout the facility as needed

Requirements

  • Previous work experience with Tow Motors and/or Forklifts is required
  • Experience moving both palletized and non-palletized loads with a forklift is highly preferred
  • Current certification in the proficient operation of forklifts is highly preferred
  • Mechanical knowledge of tow motors and forklifts is highly preferred
  • General math knowledge is required

  • Forklifts
  • Bobcat
  • Handheld Scanners
  • Pneumatic Banders (Metal)

Schedule

  • Expected hours: Between 40 and 58 per week
  • Typical schedule: 5 AM – 4 PM, Monday through Friday
  • 5 AM – 2 PM on Saturdays (only as needed, on rotation)

Pay

Starting pay typically begins between $20/hour, commensurate with experience. Overtime is paid at 1.5x pay after 40 hours. New employees are eligible for merit raises and additional cross-training opportunities after passing their 90-day probationary period.
