Forklift Operator

About the role

This position can alternate between outdoor and indoor environments, potentially exposing employees to environmental hazards. Position may require travel. Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Must be able to speak, read and understand English. Must be available for any shift, must be willing to work weekends and other hours as needed. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

Responsibilities

• Move goods packed on pallets or in crates around the storage facility according to storage requirements, shelf-life regulations, and staging procedures.
• Stack goods in the correct storage bays following inventory control instructions.
• Ensure loads are properly secure, including performing material handling procedures to correctly stack, palletize, ship, and move material.
• Stack and store empty pallets, crates, etc.
• Perform daily equipment checks such as recharging the truck’s battery and lubricating equipment.
• Unload materials and merchandise from incoming vehicles and stack them to assigned places.
• Dispose of waste materials/recyclables through the use and movement of machine hoppers, roll-offs, and other required equipment.
• Locate and move stock of products to pallets or crates for storage or shipment.
• Identify damages and report shortages or quality deficiencies.
• Perform a variety of warehousing duties that require an understanding of the establishment’s storage plan.
• Rearrange and take inventory of stored materials; examine stored materials and report deterioration and damage.
• Remove material from storage and prepare it for shipment.
• Operate tools and equipment in performance of duties as approved per management.
• Conduct assigned portions of inventories using bar code wands, labeling equipment, laser scanning equipment, and/or computer terminals.
• May require a CAC for system access.
• Operate a manually controlled gasoline, electric or liquid propane gas powered forklift to transport goods and materials of all kinds within a warehouse.
• Observe and follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
• Perform all housekeeping and maintenance duties as needed to ensure workspace upkeep.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
• Twelve months job related experience and/or training is required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
• Must be able to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical examination and urinary analysis.

• Typical warehouse environment with no unusual hazards.
• Frequent lifting up to 20–60 pounds.
• Kneeling, standing, and walking; routinely sitting.
• Constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication.
• Constant mental alertness; must possess planning/organizing skills.
• Must be able to work under deadlines.

  • 144 hours for 0–5 years of service

Pay

$26.49 per hour (rate set by CBA)
