About the role
Forklift Operators are responsible for stacking and retrieving supplies and materials. This is a non-exempt role reporting to the Foreman, with assigned duties according to specific procedures and work checked frequently.
Responsibilities
- Work under the direction of supervisor
- Document and maintain inventory
- Ensure production area organization and cleanliness
- Move hand and foot levers to control diesel, electric, or gasoline operating equipment
- Interpret hand signals to determine where materials are to be placed
- Read and interpret load charts
- May be required to manipulate equipment on unleveled working surfaces
- Perform maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and oiling machines/equipment
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction
Schedule
Sunday - Friday morning (10:00 PM to 6:30 AM). Occasional overtime during the busy season.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Minimum of 1 year experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferably one (1) to three (3) years of experience in specified skill
- Basic knowledge of hand signals
- Understands load capacity of extend boom forklifts
- Knowledge of 4-wheel drive systems on extend boom forklifts
- NCCER or NCCCO certifications and/or Turner Industries qualifications required
- Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
- Job site safety requirements (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
- Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
- Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others at the workplace
Physical requirements
- Climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level
- Maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.
- Reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials
- Coordinating the movement of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment
- Lifting 30-50 lbs. from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead
- Carrying objects, tools, etc.
- Standing, sitting, walking
- Seeing with or without correction
- Hearing with or without correction
- Following set procedures and standards
- Applying basic mathematical skills
- Planning work
- Comparing and understanding differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects
- Picturing and evaluating solid objects from drawings or diagrams using standards that can be measured or checked
- Following oral and/or written directions, plans and blueprints
- Reading and writing
- Ability to recognize and report safety hazards
