Forest Health Program- Area Forester

About the role

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) seeks an Area Forester to join our Forest Health Program. This position is being considered for both Sacramento County and Shasta County.

Responsibilities

  • Manage forest health programs within assigned areas.
  • Implement and enforce forest management practices.
  • Conduct inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Provide technical assistance to landowners and stakeholders.
  • Respond to emergencies and manage natural disasters.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Registered Professional Forester’s License.
  • Ability to perform field work requiring physical performance.
  • Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) Clearance.

Qualifications

This position requires a combination of education and experience. Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications as outlined in the FORESTER I classification specifications.

Skills

  • Knowledge of forest ecology and management practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.

Benefits

The position is subject to the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025, which temporarily reduces monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. The salary range shown on this job posting does not reflect the salary reduction.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $6,932.00 - $8,997.00 per month.

Schedule

The position is full-time and works in-office.
