About the role
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking a Forest Crew Supervisor - Corrections Facility position at Cedar Creek Correction Center in Littlerock, WA. This full-time, permanent position is represented by the Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA).
Responsibilities
- Supervise up to ten incarcerated adults engaged in wildland fire suppression, vegetation management, and habitat enhancement.
- Provide leadership, safety oversight, and training for a forestry crew.
- Travel to remote fire camps during fire season for extended periods.
- Recruit, mentor, and train incarcerated individuals in forest craft skills.
- Foster and maintain an interactive relationship with the DOC to ensure effective management of incarcerated individuals.
- Communicate, problem solve, manage, and lead cooperatively with peers and supervisors.
Qualifications
- Experience in forest crafts or technical/professional forestry knowledge.
- Six months' supervisory experience in a correctional or production-based business setting.
- Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.

Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment
- An NCIC Background Investigation will be conducted.
- Must attain FF2 by passing guard school within the first year of employment.
- Must attend and pass S-131 FF1 class and work towards IC5 certification and Single Resource-Crew Boss certification within the second year.
- Maintain a valid First-AID, CPR, and AED card.
- Must pass annual arduous work capacity test.
- Must have the physical ability to traverse all uneven terrain and work in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to operate a 12-person dual, four-wheel drive vehicle and tow trailers.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and two years of driving experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of wildland fire suppression, forest data collection, natural resource management methods, and practices.
- Experience in silvicultural work, recreation trail and facilities construction and maintenance, and operating vehicles on forest roads.
- Experience supervising adult incarcerated individuals.
- Technical/professional knowledge, skills, and licenses: Current pesticide applicator license in Washington State, Red Card Qualification of any Single Resource Boss (preferably Crew Boss), 2 or 4-year college-level course of study in natural resources, fire science, or other applicable field.
