Foreperson CDL Required Non-Union

Full-time, non-exempt position.

About the role

Ensures the productivity of daily operations, working closely with management to determine recruiting and hiring needs, deadlines, and safety protocols. The Foreperson troubleshoots routine job site issues, engages all employees and contractors on required training, and provides mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, and assigns daily work for the crew after receiving and interpreting orders from a General Foreperson or Line Clearance Supervisor.
• Conducts field training and retraining, instructing crew on new or revised job units.
• Promotes and upholds a culture of safety, applying sound judgment, adhering to company policies, and complying with OSHA specifications.
• Conducts safety training in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Discusses job-related issues with property owners or customers, including access, power interruption, work scope, and responsibility for property damage; refers controversial cases to the General Foreperson.
• Obtains oral or written permission from property owners to perform required work.
• Maintains good customer and public relations through effective work completion and appropriate crew behavior.
• May investigate incident reports, damage claims, and settle minor damage claims.
• Maintains accurate records, timesheets, and reports related to crew performance and operations.
• Controls crew costs through effective use of personnel, work methods, and equipment.
• Provides reports to the General Foreperson and utility representatives on orders completed, work units, crew time, minor damage repairs, and distribution.
• Periodically furnishes reports on incidents, truck breakdowns, private property damage, new employee follow-up, etc.
• Cooperates with customers, police, and fire departments when blocking streets or driveways.
• Establishes physical safeguards such as barriers, warning signs, flags, and markers to protect employees and the public from hazards.
• Makes swift, informed decisions in emergency situations to mitigate risks to life and property.
• Inspects and repairs tools, trucks, and other equipment as necessary.
• Maintains good housekeeping on trucks and at work locations.
• Ensures DOT maintenance and inspection requirements are met for all required vehicles.
• Stays informed about new equipment, specifications, standard practices, operating procedures, and company policies, including EEO and AA policies.
• Requests repair or replacement of equipment when necessary.

Requirements

• Understanding of drawings and symbols representing lines, voltages, and line equipment.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
• Capable of adjusting to field requirements and taking independent action without close supervision.
• Able to safely drive an approved company vehicle.
• Ability to work with hands above head for extended periods.
• Must weigh no more than approximately 300 pounds due to equipment capacity.
• No fear of heights.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• 1+ year of experience in the Line Clearance industry required.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.

Physical Requirements

• Rare (less than 10%): crawling, climbing, gripping, lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Occasional (up to 33%): standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, body-twisting, sense of touch, manual dexterity, lifting 10–50 lbs., reaching, range-of-motion, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs, balancing.
• Frequent (up to 66%): walking, sitting, climbing on/off truck, reading, lifting up to 10 lbs.
• Continuous (up to 100%): speaking clearly, seeing distant objects, general seeing, hearing within speech range, depth perception, color vision.

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry, employees must:

• Have sufficient eyesight to judge distances and coordinate equipment/tools.
• Maintain attention and concentration for extended periods.
• Withstand exposure to all weather conditions while completing work assignments.
• Wear personal protective equipment as necessary.
• Enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day.
• Have the endurance to traverse various terrain.
• Perform job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day.
• Communicate effectively, read, write, and comprehend job instructions.
• Handle conflict professionally.

Work environment includes:

• Proximity to energized power lines.
• Excessive noise from machines, chainsaws, woodchippers, and other equipment (hearing protection provided).
• Exposure to all temperatures, weather conditions, and natural elements (e.g., irritating plants, biting/stinging insects, dust).
• Work at varying heights above ground and on unlevel or slippery terrain.
• Mentally and physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or materials.
