Forensic Therapeutic Activities Worker - Torrance State Hospital
About the role
This position supports therapeutic programming that helps forensic patients build skills, strengthen independence, and make progress toward treatment goals. The work focuses on designing, leading, and adjusting activities that match each patient’s needs and abilities.
Responsibilities
- Activity Planning: Design and implement therapeutic activities that support individual treatment goals
- Patient Assessment: Evaluate patient strengths, needs, and functioning levels to guide program involvement
- Group Leadership: Conduct treatment groups, supervise patient participation, and maintain safety within secure areas
- Progress Documentation: Record activity notes, update charts, and provide information to the treatment team
- Team Collaboration: Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and offer observations that support individualized planning
- Therapeutic Support: Maintain program areas, prepare materials, and assist in creating a positive therapeutic environment
Qualifications
- Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor’s degree with major course work in therapeutic recreation; physical education; vocational rehabilitation; vocational education or counseling; art, music, dance, or occupational therapies; or a related human services field; or Four years of experience providing therapeutic activities for individuals with physical, medical, or cognitive disabilities; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Other Requirements: You must meet the PA residency requirement.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday - Thursday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
