Critical Work Responsibilities

  • Aid in expanding the AFDIL technical program to enhance service work capabilities.
  • Set up and make operationally ready a wide variety of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities such as standards maintenance, equipment preventive maintenance, reagent quality control testing and validation, proficiency testing, and accreditation and certification.
  • Process laboratory samples using AFDIL forensically validated and accredited procedures on various tissue and fluid.
  • Maintain reagents and document quality control tests in accordance with AFDIL Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform laboratory house-keeping duties including preparing common laboratory reagents, maintaining stock levels, ordering supplies, recording temperatures, monitoring equipment, and general cleaning.
  • Ensure accurate and complete chain of custody for evidence and accession forensic evidence in LISA and AFMET.
  • Edit and prepare correspondence/documents ensuring proper format, mathematical correctness, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Generate documents and reports and assist other sections as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintain Privacy Act considerations in handling specimens and information.
  • Complete required work as outlined in Individual Training Plans (ITPs) to perform laboratory procedures and data analysis.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science, Biology, or Chemistry is desired or Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Possess personality traits and professionalism necessary to maintain team cohesion and set a good working example.
  • US citizen and able to pass a NAC-I Background Check.

Physical Demands

  • Sit or stand at automated computer management systems, computers or laboratory stations for extended periods of time.
  • Operate automated and/or robotic instrumentation.
  • Perform laboratory house-keeping activities.

Special Consideration

  • Large-scale laboratory experience will be given preference.
