About the Role

This position provides evaluative and consultative services to courts across the State, acting as a liaison with clinical teams at the hospital regarding legal issues faced by their patients. Responsibilities include conducting evaluations of defendants’ competency for trial and criminal responsibility, writing reports, testifying in the District and Circuit Courts of Maryland, conducting risk assessment consultations, leading groups with court-committed patients, representing the hospital at statewide and county-level forensic meetings, participating in administrative hearings, and teaching/supervising psychology trainees. The Office of Forensic Services supports the organization’s mission through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery-oriented environment, emphasizing respect and safety in the least restrictive manner possible.

Responsibilities

• Conduct evaluations of defendants’ competency for trial and criminal responsibility.
• Write reports and testify as needed in the District and Circuit Courts of Maryland.
• Perform risk assessment consultations.
• Conduct groups with court-committed patients.
• Represent the hospital at statewide meetings and county-level forensic meetings.
• Represent the hospital in administrative hearings.
• Teach and supervise psychology trainees.
• Operate as a liaison with clinical teams regarding legal issues faced by patients.

Requirements

• Licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment. Applicants without a Maryland license may apply but will be designated in pending status until the license is obtained.
• Two years of experience rendering psychological services or engaged in psychological research after receipt of the Psychologist license.
• Possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
• Education determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under licensing requirements for Psychologists.
