Forensic Peer Support Specialist

About the role

The Forensic Peer Support Specialist provides re-entry peer support as part of a multidisciplinary team within Westmoreland County Prison, focusing on enhancing recovery through skills, resources, and independence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide orientation and direct peer recommendations based on lived experience.
  • Develop and review Individualized Recovery plans with clients.
  • Coach and support clients to connect with community supports.
  • Collaborate with various teams and external agencies.
  • Provide reports and advocacy for clients.
  • Observe confidentiality and adhere to treatment guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Past or present consumer of mental health or substance abuse services.
  • Peer Support Specialist certification (Certified Recovery Specialist, Certified Peer Specialist, or Certified Family Recovery Support Specialist).
  • One year experience in community-based settings preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate needs of position.
  • Comfortable working in a correctional facility environment.
  • Emotional stability and ability to work quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
  • Acceptable PA State Police and FBI clearances.

Annual Requirements

  • Training: Annual training related to job performance and required by the County Prison.
  • Medical/Physical: Post-offer drug screening.
