About the role
As a Forensic Counselor, you will provide screening and assessment and outpatient services to inmates housed at the Berks County Jail System.
Responsibilities
- Provide screening and assessment of inmates.
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling as appropriate to inmates.
- Complete all required clinical documentation related to outpatient treatment standards in an efficient and up-to-date manner.
- Work collaboratively with BCC and BCJS staff, including the care coordinator of the Jail Project.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related social service field.
- Bilingual: English/Spanish (required).
- Ability to work 40 hours per week within agency hours of operation: 8am–8pm Mon–Thurs, 8am–4pm Friday, with Saturday hours when applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of direct substance abuse counseling experience (or relevant internship).
- Master's degree preferred.
- Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Seeing: Must be able to read and interpret documents and analyze data on a computer screen for prolonged periods.
- Hearing: Must be able to hear well to communicate with clients, vendors, and coworkers in a forensic setting.
- Mobility: Must have mobility to move about the prison with little or no assistance; some assistance devices are not permitted inside the secure area of the prison.
- Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: Must be able to carry up to 10 pounds.
- Other: Must be able to write, type, and use technology. Must have and maintain access to work in the BJCS setting.
