Foreman - Overhead (Dominion)
Position Summary
The Foreman is a safety-focused professional responsible for leading a crew in constructing and repairing electrical overhead distribution systems. This role involves working on energized and de-energized powerlines and may require travel to various job sites, including out-of-state locations.
About the Role
Reports to the General Foreman, the Foreman oversees the crew and assumes full responsibility for the quality and timely completion of projects. Responsibilities include new construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead distribution systems, climbing different structures, operating bucket trucks, and performing live-line work.
Responsibilities
- Lead pre-job and tailgate safety briefings
- Coach and train lower classification employees in safe work procedures
- Install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware
- Perform live-line work using approved gloving and hot-stick techniques
- Operate and maintain bucket trucks, digger derricks, tensioners, pullers, and other overhead line equipment
- Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather
- Available to work outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations
Requirements
- Five (5) years of recent overhead line experience
- Proficient in basic computer operations including Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office applications
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Willing to travel long distances on short notice
- Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments
- Willing to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime
Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge of switching and tagging procedures, grounding, and induced voltage on energized and de-energized lines. Must be experienced with climbing different structures (wood, steel, concrete) using approved climbing methods and equipment.
Skills
Must have a comprehensive understanding of insulated protective gear to isolate differences of potential. Proficiency in climbing and working at heights, in confined spaces, and in proximity to energized equipment. Ability to work in extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
