About the role
The Foreman is responsible for overseeing the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This role requires frequent travel to various locations and may involve working with energized high-voltage systems.
Responsibilities
- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work.
- Coach crew members and train lower-skilled employees in safe and productive work procedures.
- Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings and troubleshoot problems in primary and secondary systems.
- String overhead wire, set poles and anchors, install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
- Replace cutout fuses and clear faulted circuits and systems.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Perform rigorous physical labor and identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
- Identify and locate puller and tensioner setups, understand grounding procedures, and work at heights and/or confined spaces.
- Understand and operate equipment safely, phase out lines using phasing sticks, and plan safe work based on job prints or work orders.
- Willingly glove/work live high voltage distribution power lines, install and remove mechanical jumpers, use a load bust tool, and identify and locate puller and tensioner setups.
- Possess a working knowledge of line protection devices, understand flag and tag procedures, and work outside in various weather conditions.
- Communicate effectively in English, coordinate and inspect the work of crew members, and comply with company reporting procedures and complete required paperwork.
- Understand and follow company safety rules and policies.
Requirements
- 5-year minimum of recent field experience.
- Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Able to travel long distances on short notice, work for extended periods in various locations, lift in excess of 50 lbs, and properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
- Comply with company reporting procedures and complete required company paperwork.
- Possess a CDL and demonstrate safe driving.
- Willing to work over-time when requested and outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.
Physical Demands
- Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
- Occasional exposure to extreme conditions at construction job sites.
- Noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
- Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions.
