Foreman

About the Role

Schedule, coordinate, supervise, provide leadership, and ensure the safety and productivity of a small work crew. May act as management liaison and/or designated client contact.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate a safe work culture.
• Ensure crew members adhere to standards for safe working conditions and are fit for work each day.
• Conduct weekly “toolbox” talks.
• Provide answers to technical safety questions or seek answers from a competent authority.
• Participate in safety/incident investigations and reviews.
• Complete incidents and other safety reports within appropriate timeframes.
• Ensure the work area is consistently clean, safe, and organized.
• Ensure new crew members are oriented to the job.
• Assess the competency and capability of each crew member; establish benchmarks for quality and productivity.
• Assign individual and crew tasks.
• Coordinate on-the-job training for apprentices; facilitate mentoring by journeymen.
• Set and maintain work standards; outline behavioral expectations to ensure positive crew morale and productivity.
• Promote, support, and facilitate teamwork.
• Perform related craftwork alongside the crew.
• Understand project plans and schedules; ensure daily and weekly activities meet production goals.
• Identify and verify availability of tools and materials required by the crew.
• Identify needs and deficiencies in plans/schedules and communicate them to appropriate persons.
• Translate general work requirements into prioritized individual tasks and assignments.
• Review and adjust project activities and task schedules to meet production goals.
• Advise superintendent of equipment and material shortages.
• Work with the crew to overcome challenges.
• Resolve or report scheduling conflicts with other crews and contractors.
• Ensure completed work meets standards and job specifications.
• Inspect completed work and initiate timely resolutions to problems.
• Prepare required reports and maintain foreman’s log or diary.
• Ensure Task Hazard Analysis (THA) is performed and recorded daily.
• Assist superintendent with project production, work progress, and quality reports.
• Maintain accurate, daily timekeeping records, including late starts, early outs, and absences.
• Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, and discipline.
• Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with other construction trades and crafts.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and company safety policies.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts.
• Ability to manage diversity in the workplace.
• Strong planning and scheduling skills.
• Ability to handle administrative duties, including document completion.
• Effective use of computers and technology.
• High school degree or equivalent.
• 5+ years’ experience as a qualified tradesperson.
• OSHA-30 certification (or obtain within six months of hire).
• Active Texas Journeyman Plumber license may be required for plumbing roles.
