About the Role

This position provides marine project support, supervising ongoing project operations to ensure work is performed safely and efficiently. The incumbent collaborates closely with the Project Superintendent, Project (Field) Engineer, Safety Representative, Boat Captain, and skilled or semi-skilled craft personnel on-site, upholding Orion’s core values of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, all grounded in Integrity.

Responsibilities

• Work as assigned by the Project Superintendent to ensure successful completion of marine construction projects.
• Plan and schedule work activities with project operations and assign work crews to tasks.
• Monitor construction time schedules to meet project deadlines and ensure timely completion.
• Ensure proper permits are secured before work proceeds.
• Inspect equipment visually to confirm proper operation.
• Supervise skilled or semi-skilled craft employees on the project work site.
• Ensure compliance with all Company Health, Safety & Environmental Policies and Procedures.
• Train new workers in equipment and tool use, and analyze and resolve work problems.
• Maintain accurate time records for employees in the work crew and coordinate their activities.
• Promote a safe, efficient, and organized work environment.
• Demonstrate safety knowledge concerning chemical and process hazards in construction, including lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, respiratory protection, emergency action plans, work permits, CPR/First Aid procedures, and job/contract requirements.
• Collaborate with the Project Superintendent, Barge Foreman, Crane Operators, Welders, Helpers, Laborers, and other crafts to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Remain qualified and physically able to drive regular passenger vehicles to visit work locations and job sites.
• Participate in and ensure participation in Safety and Environmental initiatives to comply with State/Federal regulations and improve Company programs.

Employee Safety and Compliance

• Responsible for personal safety and the safety of co-workers and others encountered on-site.
• Authorized and obligated to stop work if an unsafe condition or situation is observed or anticipated.
• Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies and procedures.
• Report violations of laws, regulations, or Company policies promptly.
• Perform related administrative and technical duties as assigned, such as certification training, safety training, and procedure reviews.
• Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary or trade secret information belonging to the Company.

Requirements

• A minimum of five (5) years of marine construction experience or equivalent supervisory experience in marine construction.
• Proficiency in handling equipment used for marine operations, reading blueprints, and diagrams.
• Knowledge of integrating various crafts (e.g., piledriving, crane operations, welding, carpentry, sandblasting, pipefitting) to perform work successfully.
• Previous supervisory experience and certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and hold crews accountable for performance excellence.
• Strong leadership skills to influence and motivate project teams.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to maintain simple records of time and materials used.

Physical/Mental Requirements

• Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Capability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, and steel-toed shoes.
• Ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate.
• Capability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as directed by the Safety Representative or management.
• Capable of evacuating the work area promptly in emergencies.
• Ability to walk, step, climb, or move between locations on job sites, including getting onto and off work barges, boats, vessels, or docks of varying heights and access parameters.
• Capable of standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting for long periods.
• Ability to climb vertical ladders up to 40'-50'.
• Capable of working in confined spaces or at elevated heights.
• Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to adapt to extreme temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure.
