Foreman

Overnight shift: 2000 – 0700, days off Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

Responsibilities

• Oversee construction, maintenance, and repair of track; supervise and direct gang members.
• Guide employees in resolving routine problems and familiarize them with organization procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Direct and instruct equipment operators and ensure safe work performance in compliance with all applicable rules.
• Assign and check work of designated staff.
• Establish interdepartmental communication to maximize work windows and meet corporate objectives.
• Ensure safe storage and proper use of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Utilize and maintain assigned equipment according to instructions.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records of daily tasks, payroll, production reports, accident/injury reports, and personnel reports.
• Complete annual training and pass safety and track worker rules examinations.
• Adhere to collective bargaining agreement; membership is required.
• Work safely to prevent on-the-job accidents and injuries.
• Comply strictly with FEC Safety Policies and wear protective equipment (hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, safety glasses).
• Travel may be required depending on section.
• Perform other duties or tasks as assigned by manager.

Requirements

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and credentials required by federal and state laws, including CDL Class B.
• Required to operate railway highway motor vehicles.
• Must have a standard railroad watch.
• Familiarity with FRA Track Safety Standards Part 213 Subpart A to G.
• Must have A & B qualifications.
• At least one year of responsible supervisory experience in track maintenance in Class 4 or higher.
• Capable of operating all FEC Maintenance of Way vehicles, regardless of transmission configuration, and must qualify for a motor car maintainer permit.
• Upon employment, must complete and pass all FEC Rules Classes (Safety, Operating, and Roadway Worker).
• Must obtain FRA A & B certifications and pass tests within 30 days of hire.
• Must pass a background screening and medical examination, including drug and physical capabilities test.
• Random testing for drugs and/or alcohol.
• Must successfully complete probationary period and pass all required assessments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• One to three months of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

• Ability to speak effectively.
• Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

• Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle tools, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk, hear, or smell.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Regularly works in outside weather conditions.
• Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, in high or precarious places, and is exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock.
• Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
