About the role
Lifemoves is a leading provider of housing and services for those experiencing homelessness in Silicon Valley. Our mission is to end homelessness by offering interim housing, supportive services, and fostering collaborative partnerships.
Responsibilities
- Act as a liaison between food services and community partners/volunteers to create a structured meal plan for clients daily.
- Aid cooks in preparing balanced meals, as directed.
- Participate in menu planning to support the dietary intake and special meal accommodations of clients.
- Implement composting practices within the organization to minimize food waste.
- Drive a truck or van to deliver food and supplies; may maintain basic records related to vehicle use such as gas/mileage and service reports.
- Create a healthy environment by serving clients during meal service to develop a better relationship with food.
- Coordinate and source food from local food banks, donors including corporations, restaurants, and faith-based groups.
- Source items from the local food bank to prep, cook, and distribute across all sites.
- Work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Maintain compliance with all food and health agency related inspections.
- Complete monthly reporting of activities for the Second Harvest Food Bank and other partners.
- Clean items used in the kitchen such as dishes, pots, pans, containers, carts, and equipment.
- Clean facilities including sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing work areas such as floors, pantries and warehouse, and trucks; empty garbage cans.
- Occasionally assist in cooking.
- Assist with supplies and deliveries including signing for, bringing in, and/or storing items.
- Encourage clients to make use of programs like CalFresh, SNAP, WIC to access food.
- Assure the proper care and maintenance of vehicle.
- Contribute to the food service team by cross training for all positions.
- Attend and participate in training and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.
- Participate in general staff meetings, 1:1’s and other meetings and events planned by the Food Services Manager.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two years of experience in an institutional or commercial kitchen, including food preparation, food service, and cleaning of kitchen equipment and facilities.
- Ability to maintain food safety by following all food handling and sanitation guidelines.
- Proficient computer skills and overall comfort using technology.
- Professional experience in a food service or nutrition-related field.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to safely lift up to 30 pounds and meet the physical demands of the position.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
- Valid Food Handler Certification or ServSafe Manager Certification required.
- Valid driver's license and proof of current automobile liability insurance required.
