Food Services Associate

About the role

The Food Services Associate is responsible for the pick-up of food through Feeding America, assisting with the maintenance of facilities, equipment, and greenhouse operations, and providing coverage support to the food pantry as needed, while ensuring compliance with applicable guidelines and supporting JCEO’s mission.

Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Location: On-Site; 43 Valco Drive; Malone, NY

Responsibilities

  • Pickup and/or receipt of food through Feeding America and local community drives.
  • Maintain regular communication with local grocers and partners to schedule pickup of baked goods, SHARE Food Program items, and other donated food.
  • Assist with Summer Feeding and Backpack Programs as assigned.
  • Assist with snow removal, minor maintenance, and limited groundskeeping tasks, including mowing, trimming, weeding, raking, debris removal and complete runs to the sanitation station as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly pantry, garden, and greenhouse in compliance with New York State Health Department regulations and agency policies and procedures.
  • Inspect and maintain program vehicles and equipment, including trucks, forklifts, and tractors, ensuring safe operation and adequate supplies (e.g., fuel, oil, tires, lights, and fluids).
  • Operate the forklift in compliance with OSHA’s Powered Industrial Truck requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain seedlings for transplanting; monitor gardens and greenhouses daily (including watering, spraying, weed control, and plant health); assist with harvesting and preparing produce for Food Pantry distribution in compliance with food safety guidelines.
  • Complete assigned coverage duties such as the support of food pantry operations, including client intake, CAPTAIN data entry, assisting with applications for programs, stocking pantry shelves, and assisting clients with food selection in compliance with HPNAP, Regional Food Bank guidelines, and Agency procedures.
  • Travel is required within service areas.
  • Attend all required training.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations.
  • Perform all duties in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the Joint Council for Economic Opportunity of Clinton & Franklin Counties, Inc.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. As a condition of employment, employees in positions requiring driving will be enrolled in the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles License Event Notification Service (LENS) program.
  • Must obtain forklift certification within the introductory period and maintain it throughout employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification within the first 30 days of hire. Re-certification will be required as specified by DOT guidelines. (Note: The cost of the certification exam only will be covered by JCEO; any additional associated costs, e.g., medical evaluations or appointments, will be the responsibility of the employee.)
