Food Service Worker / Part-time, Evening Shift
Location: Bemidji, MN
Part-time, unlimited position with evening shift (3:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.). Schedule includes at least 40 hours per 2-week pay period and may include additional hours based on business needs. Weekend rotation required.
About the role
As a Food Service Worker at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Bemidji, you will perform routine food service tasks including food preparation, short-order cooking, serving meals to residents, dishwashing, and cleaning food service areas while following established food service policies and procedures.
New hires may be eligible for a $2,500 hiring bonus.
Responsibilities
- Prepare food on a large scale and on a household scale
- Perform simple cooking tasks
- Plan and plate small meals
- Serve meals to residents
- Read diet cards and follow instructions
- Clean food service areas and equipment
- Adhere to food service policies and procedures
Requirements
- Knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing food
- Care and use of cooking utensils and equipment
- Understanding of food values and nutrition
- Ability to perform cleaning and food service tasks
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

- Experience with food preparation and cooking on a large scale
- Ability to plan and prepare small meals on a household scale
Preferred Qualifications
- Food service-related experience specifically with prepping, plating, and serving food
- Knowledge of basic sanitation standards
- ServSafe Food Certificate
- Knowledge of International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI)
Additional Requirements
- A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. Finalists must pass this background check.
- A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening or chest x-ray is required prior to employment.
- Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists, including a review of job performance documentation and contact with former employers.
Pay
Salary range: $20.87 – $25.88 per hour, plus a $2.25/hour shift differential for all hours worked after 6:00 p.m. and before 6:00 a.m.
