Food Service Worker II
About the role
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Food Service Worker II to join a team dedicated to providing specialized care and compassionate services to Texans in need. The position involves routine food service work in the central kitchen and/or at satellite kitchens/serving areas.
Responsibilities
- Prepares, portioning, distributing, and serving food for regular and therapeutic diets.
- Sanitizes equipment, work areas, dishes, utensils, pots, and pans.
- Trains or assists in training new kitchen employees.
- Handles food in accordance with federal, state, and HACCP guidelines.
- Follows kitchen and food safety procedures and practices.
- Assists in the preparation and portioning of food for special diets.
- Maintains supply of snack items.
- Distributes food in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Trains or assists in training new kitchen employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Must possess or be willing to obtain a food safety certification (ServSafe, Learn to Serve, or Food Protection Manager) within the first six months of employment. Must have prior paid work experience in food service work, or 6 months experience preferred. Must be at least 18 years old and able to pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, and Employee Misconduct.
Qualifications
Knowledge of food preparation methods, food storage standards and sanitation regulations, and the operation and sanitizing of food service equipment. Ability to prepare and serve food, clean dining, serving, and food preparation areas, maintain accurate records, speak and read English, and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to complete basic math used in cooking/preparation and work harmoniously with co-workers and patients.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $2,639.75 - $3,404.91 per month, paid monthly.
Schedule
The position works on a designated shift and rotation in the central kitchen and/or at a satellite kitchen/serving area. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs other duties as assigned.
