About the Role
Under supervision of the Child Nutrition Technician, this position assists in the preparation of school lunches, serves lunches, conducts satellite school serving operations, performs routine cleaning tasks in a school cafeteria, and related work.
This class is distinguished from Food Service Worker I in that it may carry the responsibility for operating a food service program at a school other than the school at which the kitchen is located. Typically a part-time position working only on school days, persons in this class may, at the secondary level, perform specialized food preparation tasks due to greater diversity of menus offered.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the kitchen by preparing entrees, fruits, vegetables, sandwiches, and other foods.
- Loads, transports, and delivers food to satellite sites.
- Re-thermalizes, assembles, sets up, and serves hot food and cold items at serving lines.
- Collects and accounts for meals served.
- Assists in cleaning and storing cafeteria utensils, equipment, and supplies.
- Washes pots and pans and cleans and sweeps kitchen areas.
- Deposits money in bank.
- Assists with record keeping of free and reduced lunches.
- Assists in training new employees.
- May assume responsibility for operations of the cafeteria in the absence of the Food Service Manager or Cook.
- Works collaboratively with Yard Duty Supervisors and Custodians to ensure cafeteria tables are cleaned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- One year of paid experience in preparing large quantities of foods.
- Equivalent to completion of grade twelve.
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
- ServSafe Certification required.
Physical Demands
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
- Some climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching.
- Reaching, handling, touching, and/or feeling.
- Manual dexterity to operate a telephone and enter data into a computer.
Post-Offer Requirements
- Department of Justice Criminal Background Check.
- TB Test within the past 60 days (Education Code 49406, Assembly Bill 1667).
- Complete district Mandated Reporter training, Sexual Harassment training, etc.
- Must obtain and maintain a First Aid/CPR Certificate (In-Person Training ONLY).
- Pre-Employment Physical Evaluation conducted through the District.
Schedule
- 9.5 work months (school year only).
- 6.0 hours per day, 5 days a week.
- Clock hours: 7:30 am to 2:00 pm (30 minute unpaid lunch), subject to change.
Pay
$22.42 to $27.29 per hour
