Food Service Worker I - Prov Food & Nutrition Services - Providence

Responsibilities

• Abide by and enforce all compliance requirements and policies; perform responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values.
• Adhere to hospital policies, including confidentiality.
• Maintain regular and prompt attendance; work assigned schedule including overtime.
• Assist with training and orienting new employees.
• Perform patient care and department responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Utilize proper body mechanics when moving equipment and supplies.
• Set up the patient tray line, cafeteria serving line, and catering/special events with appropriate food items weighing up to 10 lbs (toast, coffee, dishes, juices, milks, hot steam table pans, cold food trays, tray liners, diet kits, paper supplies, serving utensils, etc.).
• Accurately assemble patient trays (weighing up to 5 lbs) following diet guidelines and tray set-up guidelines.
• Serve food on tray line and cafeteria line using standardized utensils, adhering to recipes and serving sizes.
• Prepare food trays following patient dietary requirements; knowledge of diets is required for both trayline and cafeteria.
• Deliver and retrieve wheeled patient food carts weighing up to 300 lbs and trays weighing up to 5 lbs to assigned areas on nursing units and patient floors in a timely manner to maintain appropriate food temperatures.
• Identify patients when transporting/delivering patient food, trays, or items by reading and checking patient information on doors, menus, diet, and tally sheets to ensure proper delivery.
• Restock floor nourishment areas and cafeteria food items, serving utensils, dishes, and paper supplies.
• Demonstrate proper care and use of food service equipment; report improperly working equipment or safety hazards to supervisor.
• Follow sanitation and safety guidelines; keep work area and surfaces clean.
• Operate, load, and unload dishes, silverware, pots, and pans from dishwasher to trayline, cafeteria, physicians dining room, and other kitchen areas, including long periods of standing and walking.
• Participate in post-meal clean-up tasks, including cleaning equipment, utensils, tables, floors, and walls as required.
• Complete all mandatory department, educational, and hospital requirements.
• Adhere to current infection control and safety standards.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Previous food service experience.
• Food handler's Card or ServSafe certificate (required upon hire).
• Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of hospital food service procedures, sanitation, food safety, and patient dietary requirements.
• Skilled in preparing and delivering patient meal trays accurately and efficiently while providing courteous customer service.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, follow safety procedures, operate kitchen equipment, and work effectively as part of a team.
