About the role

As a Food Service Worker, you'll play an important role in creating a positive experience for our patients, visitors, and team members. By supporting the daily operations of the kitchen, tray line, and dish room, you'll help ensure every meal is prepared, delivered, and served safely, efficiently, and with care. This role will be focused on retail cafeteria and catering. Your commitment to food service excellence, teamwork, and customer service directly contributes to the exceptional patient experience that defines RWJBarnabas Health.

Responsibilities

• Serve on the tray assembly line in assigned positions involving starters, servers, soups, desserts, and hot beverages.
• Serving food and cashier duties.
• Supporting catering events including set up/clean up for events in afternoon and evening.
• Wash pots and pans and perform heavy cleaning duties as directed.
• Assist in the care and maintenance of work areas, equipment, and supplies.
• Clean and sanitize work areas and equipment; perform general routine cleaning duties and non-round duties as assigned.
• Collect, process, and properly dispose of trash, recyclables, and waste.
• Correctly label and date portioned food products.
• Deliver and pick up patient meal trays according to department policy.
• Maintain established food preparation policies, procedures, standards, and quality expectations.
• Prepare, load, transport, and strip food trucks; scrape plates and pre-soak silverware.
• Communicate patient questions or concerns to the Diet Office and notify nursing staff when assistance is needed.

Requirements

Previous food service experience is preferred but not required. We welcome dependable candidates who are eager to learn, enjoy working as part of a team, and are committed to providing exceptional customer service in a healthcare setting. Successful Food Service Workers demonstrate strong attention to detail, follow food safety and sanitation standards, and take pride in supporting patients through quality meal service.

Pay

The anticipated hourly wage range for this position is $16.68 - $18.62 per hour. The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Schedule

This is a part-time position requiring flexibility to work variable shifts, with 6:00am-2:30pm serving as the primary shift. Weekend and holiday availability is required to help ensure outstanding food service and patient care every day of the year.
