Principal Responsibilities

  • Assist kitchen staff with meal preparation and ensure timely delivery of meals in the dining room and to resident rooms as needed.
  • Monitor the dining area and respond promptly to resident needs during mealtimes.
  • Review dietary charts and provide appropriate meals to residents with dietary restrictions.
  • Accurately portion food in accordance with dietary guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Sanitize and clean dishes, utensils, and kitchen tools following established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records; notify the Food Service Supervisor of needed supplies.
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal food safety standards and health codes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming dining environment; reset the dining area after each meal.
  • Participate in team meetings, safety drills, and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Handle all resident-related information in a confidential and professional manner.
  • Uphold agency policies related to client care, staff conduct, and workplace safety.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, mutual respect, and cultural sensitivity in all interactions.
  • Report and help resolve any safety hazards or operational issues.
  • Follow safe food storage, preparation, and disposal protocols to prevent contamination.
  • Provide friendly, compassionate, and patient-centered service during all meal interactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior experience in a food service, cafeteria, or kitchen setting preferred.
  • Experience in community-based, shelter, or healthcare environments is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of basic food prep, sanitation, and safety practices.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, multitask, and work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced setting.
  • Valid Food Handler's Certificate or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25-30 pounds safely.
  • Capacity to perform repetitive tasks and operate kitchen equipment in a safe manner.
