Principal Responsibilities
- Assist kitchen staff with meal preparation and ensure timely delivery of meals in the dining room and to resident rooms as needed.
- Monitor the dining area and respond promptly to resident needs during mealtimes.
- Review dietary charts and provide appropriate meals to residents with dietary restrictions.
- Accurately portion food in accordance with dietary guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Sanitize and clean dishes, utensils, and kitchen tools following established protocols.
- Maintain accurate inventory records; notify the Food Service Supervisor of needed supplies.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal food safety standards and health codes.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming dining environment; reset the dining area after each meal.
- Participate in team meetings, safety drills, and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Handle all resident-related information in a confidential and professional manner.
- Uphold agency policies related to client care, staff conduct, and workplace safety.
- Demonstrate professionalism, mutual respect, and cultural sensitivity in all interactions.
- Report and help resolve any safety hazards or operational issues.
- Follow safe food storage, preparation, and disposal protocols to prevent contamination.
- Provide friendly, compassionate, and patient-centered service during all meal interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations.
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Prior experience in a food service, cafeteria, or kitchen setting preferred.
- Experience in community-based, shelter, or healthcare environments is a plus.
- Working knowledge of basic food prep, sanitation, and safety practices.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, multitask, and work independently.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced setting.
- Valid Food Handler's Certificate or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25-30 pounds safely.
- Capacity to perform repetitive tasks and operate kitchen equipment in a safe manner.
