Food Service Worker

Summary

This position serves as a food server worker, working in various kitchen areas such as food preparation, dish and pot washing, dry and refrigerated storage and receiving, and the serving area. The position is located at the VA Medical Center in Wichita, KS.

Qualifications

• Evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions on the resume.
• Qualified candidates will be rated based on the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
• The screen-out element evaluates whether applicants possess the minimum acceptable qualification requirement.
• Major duties and responsibilities include setting up and breaking down stations, portions food items, placing food on trays, identifying dietary discrepancies, setting up dining room tables, delivering meals, assisting cooks with food preparation, and performing heavy-duty cleaning tasks.
• Work schedule varies from 5:00 AM to 7:30 PM, Monday through Sunday, including holidays.

Physical Effort and Work Conditions

• Work is performed in kitchen areas with high temperatures and humidity due to cooking and dishwashing equipment.
• Employees are exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration units.
• Duties require light to moderate physical effort, with occasional heavy work.
• Continuous standing, walking, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending are frequent.
• Frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted and occasionally lifting or moving objects weighing more than 40 pounds with assistance.
