About the role
Candidates must have a valid Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Qualifying Certificate in Food Protection.
Location
Wards Island, NY and East Harlem, NY
Major Functions
- Prepare and cook nutritious meals.
- Assures that food services meet state and local laws, regulations and health codes for sanitation and safety.
- Maintain cleanliness of the dining area including cleaning up after all meals.
- Understand weights and measures and relates them to portion control.
- Maintain the service and preparation areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Provide assistance to Head cook as directed.
- Receive all incoming food deliveries and maintain the cleanliness and order of all food storage areas.
- Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
- Attend all required in-service training seminars.
- Participate in quality improvement activities.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D highly preferred.
- Minimum of one year experience in the culinary field, preferably, in a non-profit institution.
- Must have a valid Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Qualifying Certificate in Food Protection.
- Proficiency with computer operation (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook programs).
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
- Position requires on call availability.
