About the role

This is a part-time position for 29 hours per week. The Food Service Worker assists in the overall operation of Campus Food Services, providing good customer service and encouraging a student-friendly atmosphere.

The position reports directly to the Lead Food Service Worker or the Food Service Manager and coordinates closely with the team during business hours.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares daily breakfast, lunch, and other items and serves them.
  • Cleans the kitchen and serving areas to maintain sanitary standards.
  • Washes dishes, pots, and pans after each meal period.
  • Operates cash register and makes end-of-day deposits, including counting and balancing register drawers.
  • Assists in the preparation and serving of menus for special College-sponsored functions.
  • Supports other employees in the Hilltop Grill with tasks as assigned.
  • Ensures all stock and supplies are locked and secure after business hours.
  • Compiles temperature checklists and prepares worksheets for the upcoming week.
  • Preps and stocks supplies for the next business day.
  • Assists in preparing orders for pre-approved vendors.
  • Organizes and completes daily cleaning lists for the Hilltop Grill.
  • Assists with food preparation, set-up, and clean-up for catered events on campus.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of food storage, preparation, and serving methods.
  • ServSafe Food Protection Certification desirable or ability to obtain it.
  • Must be age 18 or older.
  • Minimum one year of experience working in food service, such as at a restaurant, school, nursing facility, or hospital.
  • Barista and cash register experience are pluses.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and store supplies.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Proficient in handling cash and making change.
  • Professional demeanor reflecting a positive image of the Campus Food Service department.
  • Reliable, punctual, and motivated to work.

Working Environment

This position requires physical demands, including lifting and standing for long periods. The schedule is flexible and may include occasional weekend hours. Work primarily takes place indoors in an open-concept kitchen, with some exposure to non-air-conditioned areas and occasional outdoor events. The role involves handling heat (both temperature and stress) in a cohesive, team-oriented atmosphere.

Schedule

Part-time, 29 hours per week, with a flexible schedule including occasional weekend hours.
