Food Service Worker

Location: 6644 E Baywood Ave, Mesa, AZ at Banner Baywood Medical Center, a 342-bed hospital serving East Valley communities with acute care, outpatient services, cancer treatment, stroke care, women's health, rehabilitation, emergency medicine, and surgery.

About the Role

As a Food Service Worker, you will plan and execute daily food production for multiple service areas, including café menus, catering events, and special requests. This role combines culinary expertise with customer service, requiring independent management of food preparation timing and quantities, waste minimization, and adherence to standardized recipes. You will also serve as a front-line customer service representative, handling point-of-sale transactions, resolving customer concerns, and maintaining accurate financial records while upholding food safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

• Set up work station and prepare assigned foods and nourishments in correct quantities, following established procedures, portion control, and food quality standards.
• Ensure food presentation meets standards.
• Clean and sanitize dishes, flatware, trays, cups, glasses, cooking utensils, equipment, and kitchen areas; dispose of waste materials.
• Monitor dish machine temperature.
• Maintain par levels of foods and supplies; order/restock items, rotate food stocks, and check expiration dates.
• Check and record food and equipment temperatures; report discrepancies to supervisor.
• Deliver meals, nourishments, late trays, and tube feedings to units; return excess nourishments as requested.
• Assist in catering or special event service.
• Handle transactions at cash register and/or café.
• Interact with food service department personnel, hospital staff, patients, and families to provide excellent customer service while maintaining sanitation standards.

Requirements

• Ability to learn and follow established policies and procedures.
• Read and understand written and verbal instructions.
• Effective communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to learn food handling regulations and pass required certification tests (e.g., food handlers' card within 30 days of hire for Banner Staffing Services team members, except in Tucson and Colorado).
• Ability to follow instructions for using cleaning chemicals and work in physical contact with them.
• Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required for employees at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital and Olive Branch Senior Center.
• Arizona Criminal History Affidavit required upon hire for Banner Behavioral Health Hospital.

Schedule

Varied shift, 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM.
